Google App Engine

Abstract

Looking back at Devoxx, "the cloud" was one of the biggest topics. Cloud computing comes in different forms for different purposes. Google offers a sandboxed environment to run Servlet based web applications within their cloud. This gives you automatic scaleability and a managed environment in trade of some flexibility. While very easy to get started with, you'll quickly run into differences between the sandbox environment and a "traditional" environment. The datastore is not relational for example, some Java classes may not be used and you can't access the file system. In this talk you'll hear and see how to build applications for AppEngine.

Topics:
-Cloud computing introduction (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS)
-AppEngine overview
-Developing and deploying for AppEngine
-Storing data
-Using frameworks
-AppEngine Services (Memcache, Task Queues etc.)
