Versioning Tools
Abstract
If you care about development, then your source files matter to you. Picking the best tool to version control these should be high on your priority list.
This presentation will introduce you to the world of Distributed Version Control Systems or DVCSs. We will show how they came to be, what was the motivation and what they can bring to you today for your sources and more.
As a side dish, you will be served with an interesting match between Git and Mercurial features to help you pick your choice. As tools used for the Linux kernel or OpenJDK development, they represent the best in this new world. And as all great tools, once tried, you will not let go!
Speakers
Jo has been passionate about computers and technology ever since he got his first computer at the age of 9. He wrote his first LOC in C at age of 14, did several web projects in PHP and Javascript and since 2003 moved on to the more challenging rich client Java/Swing and J2EE projects. Next to his day job as a Senior Java consultant and contractor (Pursuit Consulting - www.pursuit.be) he spends most of his free time experimenting with new technologies like JavaFX, Flex and cloud computing.
Louis Jacomet discovered development when starting at the university. This new challenge quickly satisfied his thirst for learning and discovery. For nearly 10 years, he has been perfecting his knowledge of enterprise Java. Initially as a developer, his role evolved over the last years as technical team leader or coach.
In addition to the bits and bytes, Louis is interested in people management skills mandatory to create a productive project team.
Discovering Agile 5 years ago was a revelation and has underpinned all his work since, whether on an Agile project or not.
Louis works in Belgium as a freelance contractor.
